Freehold vs leasehold is a British concept.  Clients from the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong are used to freehold vs leasehold.  In Manhattan, almost all properties are freehold.  The exception is Battery Park where the land is leased, and the common charges reflect rent paid to the Battery Park Authority.

Owning a freehold property means you own both the property and the land where it is built on, indefinitely.  Meanwhile, owning a property through a leasehold arrangement means that you own the property or land for a fixed amount of time, hence, leasehold has a discount to a freehold property.

Our role is in helping buyers navigate the process and evaluate the best investment based on the client’s objectives, appreciation and overall return potential.
