Florence, after the Bubonic Plague which killed half its population, experienced the Renaissance.  Philadelphia had the Yellow Fever pandemic and Thomas Jefferson predicted the end of cities (it didn’t happen).  Cities with the highest densities like Manhattan, Singapore, Hong Kong also experienced the lowest rates of infection.  He also cites Harvard’s Edward Glasier about what makes cities thrive.
