Summary: Wall Street Journal’s Melanie Lefkowitz interviewed Wei Min Tan about the Tribeca neighborhood. In the 19th century, Tribeca was an area that was mostly abandoned. Then in the 1960s, artists started coming in and the change began. Currently Tribeca is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Manhattan.
Wei Min’s comments in the article: Tribeca is now a highly desirable area because of access to transportation options and an abundance of good restaurants. Being just north of the upcoming World Trade Center buildings means Tribeca has more potential as there will be demand coming from the thousands of people working at the WTC buildings.
Back in 2008, luxury condominiums 101 Warren and 200 Chambers were built. This spurred the opening of Whole Foods and Barnes and Noble on Warren Street. As residential infrastructure developed, more restaurants came in and now Tribeca boasts some of the best restaurants in New York City.
